I’ve had some push-back on my post warning folks not to limit examination of Epstein to sexual blackmail, but to explore his wider importance as a power player in global intelligence and business, not least the origins of that involvement in London in the Eighties, in the same matters covered in my book “Maggie’s Hammer” — https://tinyurl.com/3b8rymjp.
I begin where I always do on the matter of Epstein. Whatever may happen over the next days, weeks, and months, we must never forget that this was and remains an episode of terrible human tragedy. Of powerful people abusing vulnerable children. I hope that all that occurs this week and beyond brings some measure of closure for those hurt.
In the meantime, there is a danger that those of us not intimately involved, those of us claiming our interest is to achieve accountability, there is a danger that we may miss some of the accountability that is necessary.
In my earlier post, I made the case that, in addition to Epstein’s revolting sexual peccadilloes, Epstein, from his time in London in the Eighties, was deeply involved as a significant operative and asset in all manner of covert and global financial and intelligence operations. And that this may be the primary reason for information and investigations being suppressed.
The push-back has been from some people becoming agitated that I may be minimizing the sexual abuse. I am not. I am setting it in context. Immediately comes back the refrain that all that Epstein was about was catching powerful people in compromising sexual situations, and then exploiting that.
One more time, Our primary concern should be emotional healing for the victims. But as to the why, here’s my thinking. I can produce all manner of receipts for my contention that Epstein’s importance was his intelligence and business operations. If others argue that his significance was kompromat, to put it bluntly, where is it?
Why hasn’t anyone produced videos? Why is no one pushing for videos to be released? Where are there individuals running PR in advance of any disclosure? Where is there a single piece of evidence of any of the powerful people, whose names have already been mentioned, acting in a way that is weird, or suggestive of blackmail?
Well, I am asked, are you saying there was no blackmail, no recordings, etc?
My answer is this. It is based upon my having spent the last 31 years undergoing my own healing from being chronically alcoholic, still being in recovery, and dealing with the matters that gave rise to the alcoholism.
Broken people are looking for safety, for affirmation, for visibility. Epstein grew up in a broken home. Not well off. But he was clever. Very clever. He developed that. And then traded on it. But, he maintained a deep inferiority complex.
Epstein wanted to be accepted. He wanted to be on the same level as the power players. This is why he was attracted to royalty, to scientists, to rich businessmen, to powerful politicians.
However, rubbing shoulders was not enough. Broken wannabes need to bring others down to their level, to achieve intimacy on the same terms. It is my informed speculation that Epstein recorded sexual dalliances as private ‘gotcha’ moments (in the main). Again, I do not minimize the abuse of the victims. I draw distinction between kompromat and a private “I know you” library (again, in the main).
I have a terrible suspicion that, in the coming days, weeks, and months, we are gong to learn little more about Epstein’s political and sexual blackmail. Precisely because it does not and never did exist to the extent that we all thought it did.
The danger is we then move onto other topics, and miss the true importance of Epstein. And that is what? Who cares if we move on?
Ari Ben-Menashe, the primary Israeli Intelligence source for my book told me about the connections between Hugh Simmonds CBE (the subject of “Maggie’s Hammer”) and Robert Maxwell in 1993. Ari then got scared and talked no more about it.
I did some research of my own. Forgot about Maxwell until 2015-2017, when all sorts of credible information was published about Russian Mafia money-laundering into New York, possibly connected to Donald Trump.
A name cropped up. Semion Mogilevich. I had seen it before. I checked. Yup. Connected to Robert Maxwell and his laundering money and assets into and out of Eastern Europe and Russia in the Eighties.
I started writing about the possible connections between Hugh, Ari, Maxwell, the Russian Mafia, and Donald Trump, among others. Not too many people paid attention. Until Ari revealed in 2019 that Epstein had made his start in London in the Eighties with the same groups with which Hugh and Maxwell were associated. Then, interest took off.
The point is this. I was looking at Robert Maxwell in 1993. No one else paid any real attention until 2019. Are we in danger of missing the true importance of Epstein for the same reasons — and for the same period of time?
